On October 5, 2020 Arena Users received a letter from Norfolk County CAO, Jason Burgess, seeking our input on future changes to Ice Rental Rates in Norfolk County.

A copy of Mr. Burgess’ letter has been posted here: Norfolk_Ice_Users_Letter

The collective reply of the Norfolk, Waterford, Simcoe and Port Dover minor hockey associations is posted here: Reply_to_Norfolk_User_Fee_Exploration_

Our associations also reached out and shared our thoughts with Delhi, Langton, our local Girls Association (the Hericanes) and our Adult Hockey Leagues.

The recent response from the NBC Wednesday Night Hockey League to Mr. Burgess is post here: NBC_Wednesday_Night_Hockey_League_Reply_to_User_Fees_Letter

Statement from your Boards:

“The Norfolk, Simcoe, Port Dover and Waterford minor hockey associations continue to advocate for the need for our local arenas and their continued presence as community fixtures. Our arenas are key components of our local community fabric and contribute immensely to our rural characteristic. We respect that Norfolk exists as a collection of rural communities – each with their own unique characteristics and cherished attributes – and our arenas are valuable assets of each. Users and community members as a whole benefit from our arenas and as such it is critical that both continue to financially support them. A proper balance between tax levy and user fee support is essential to ensuring our arenas’ long-term success. The conversation on this however, must start with an absolute commitment to providing and operating our arenas in both a fiscally responsible way AND at a level and in a manner that satisfies user and community needs. We wish to have this broader and critical conversation with Norfolk County and other arena users first, before jumping to the matter of user fees alone, and we continue to wait for it.”
