NORFOLK ARENAS - What's happening?
What is your local Minor Hockey Association saying about the Norfolk County 2020 Budget decisions? Well, here it is.
Below is the growing collection of positions being tabled to Norfolk
Council on the 2020 Budget and its intended implications to our
community arenas. We encourage our members to read these submissions
and send in your own email, letter, tweet, etc to your Councillor,
Mayor, MPP, etc. We are encouraging open engagement and discussion on
this matter with our elected officials.
Closure of any community facility is a loss of community space, an impact to users and an erosion of community identity. Beyond this, we are hearing the desire to ‘privatize’ arena operations. Such consideration of privatization requires the input of those that use these buildings. Our community buildings should represent and reflect the pride and care of its surrounding people – privatization of these assets tends to provide third party profit (why else would they take this on) at the expense of these objectives. We trust and hope that our elected officials will work with us to resolve these concerns in a way that does not put our community and its reputation at risk. View all issued letters…
